An Updated List of Goldman Sachs Ties to the Obama Government Including Elena Kagan

With Bush, it was mostly big oil. With Obama, it appears to be mostly Goldman Sachs. The faces change, but the corruption doesn’t. Anyway, this article and the previous article by the author (which he links to in this article) are eye-opening and well worth reading.

From FireDogLake:

I. Introduction.

This essay shows the pervasive influence of Goldman Sachs and its units (like the Goldman-Robert Rubin-funded Hamilton Project embedded in the Brookings Institution) in the Obama government. These names are in addition to those compiled on an older such list and published here at FDL. In the future, I will combine the names here and those on the earlier article but I urge readers to look at the earlier list too (links below). Combined, this is the largest and most comprehensive list of such ties yet published.

For readability and clarity, I have NOT included many of the details and links that are found in the earlier article so as to make this one less repetitive and easier to read. So, if you want more documentation, please look at my earlier diary here at Firedoglake called “A List of Goldman Sachs People in the Obama Government: Names Attached To The Giant Squid’s Tentacles” published on April 27, 2010.

Note too that I have intentionally used the words, “Obama government” rather than “Obama administration” because some of these connections are not technically within his administration. These would include ambassadorial appointments and Supreme Court appointments (like that anticipated for Elena Kagan). This also includes lobbyists like Dick Gephardt who has multiple connections/input to Obama and to Goldman Sachs and the Hamilton Project.

In a similar vein, I use a broader definition than just Goldman Sachs (GS) because GS has funded, along with its ex-leader Robert Rubin, a right-leaning think tank called the Hamilton Project and embedded it within the Brookings Institution. Some of its activities thus also spill over into Brookings Institution projects which doubtlessly was one of the clever reasons Rubin and GS did this, along with providing their essentially neo-con/neo-liberal think tank with camouflage. This has worked beautifully for GS and Rubin as most writers–even critical ones like Matt Taibbi–seem unaware of the important doings of the Hamilton Project. The Hamilton Project has 32 people sitting on its Advisory Council and many have ties to Goldman Sachs, Rubin and the Obama government. Of the first four Directors of the Hamilton Project, three work in the Obama administration. Meanwhile, the most recent Director of the Hamilton Project came from academia and from a position as economic adviser to the Obama administration to Hamilton in the sort of “revolving door” that Washington is famous for.

10 suspects, and motives as to why the Gulf oil spill was an inside job

I’ve thought this from the beginning. This would be the perfect excuse for gas prices to skyrocket in the Bush years. Just because prices haven’t gone through the roof doesn’t mean this wasn’t an inside job.

From DeadlineLive.info:

Yes I know… Not everything is a conspiracy, but I don’t let that stop me from theorizing, especially when a certain incident has so many beneficiaries. Sure, as Rhambo Emanuel is famous for saying… “Never waste a good crisis” – good enough, except this crisis in many ways places some oily egg right on his face.

While is possible that this TOO was just another example of “incompetence” or Mother nature fighting back… We owe it to ourselves to fully analyze the situation, its players, and beneficiaries.

Consider this a starting place for reasons that the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was an inside job, and go from there. My point is not to convince you, but to make sure we aren’t missing anything by simply buying in to the Media version of events. In fleshing this all out I will be counting in two columns. Who stands to gain, and who had a motive and opportunity.

Whats fishy here is that all the witnesses have vanished! 11 people BTW (there’s that pesky 11 again). There is no surveillance video evidence, even though we are talking about billions of dollars sitting offshore. Surveillance cameras at the BP gas stations, but not on their oil rig? Yeah… there were no cameras at the Pentagon, or at Oklahoma City either… wink wink.

Here is the list of suspects, not particularly in any order.

Remember that ash cloud? It didn’t exist, says new evidence

From DailyMail.co.uk:

Britain’s airspace was closed under false pretences, with satellite images revealing there was no doomsday volcanic ash cloud over the entire country.

Skies fell quiet for six days, leaving as many as 500,000 Britons stranded overseas and costing airlines hundreds of millions of pounds.

Estimates put the number of Britons still stuck abroad at 35,000.

However, new evidence shows there was no all-encompassing cloud and, where dust was present, it was often so thin that it posed no risk.

The satellite images demonstrate that the skies were largely clear, which will not surprise the millions who enjoyed the fine, hot weather during the flight ban.

Jim McKenna, the Civil Aviation Authority’s head of airworthiness, strategy and policy, admitted: ‘It’s obvious that at the start of this crisis there was a lack of definitive data.

‘It’s also true that for some of the time, the density of ash above the UK was close to undetectable.’

CRU Emails “may” be open to interpretation, but commented code by the programmer tells the real story

From WattsUpWithThat:

When the CRU emails first made it into news stories, there was immediate reaction from the head of CRU, Dr. Phil Jones over this passage in an email:

From a yahoo.com news story:

In one leaked e-mail, the research center’s director, Phil Jones, writes to colleagues about graphs showing climate statistics over the last millennium. He alludes to a technique used by a fellow scientist to “hide the decline” in recent global temperatures. Some evidence appears to show a halt in a rise of global temperatures from about 1960, but is contradicted by other evidence which appears to show a rise in temperatures is continuing.

Jones wrote that, in compiling new data, he had “just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (i.e., from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline,” according to a leaked e-mail, which the author confirmed was genuine.

Dr. Jones responded.

Climate Emails Stoke Debate

Not to beat a dead horse, but…

From The Wall Street Journal:

The scientific community is buzzing over thousands of emails and documents — posted on the Internet last week after being hacked from a prominent climate-change research center — that some say raise ethical questions about a group of scientists who contend humans are responsible for global warming.

The correspondence between dozens of climate-change researchers, including many in the U.S., illustrates bitter feelings among those who believe human activities cause global warming toward rivals who argue that the link between humans and climate change remains uncertain.

Some emails also refer to efforts by scientists who believe man is causing global warming to exclude contrary views from important scientific publications.

“This is horrible,” said Pat Michaels, a climate scientist at the Cato Institute in Washington who is mentioned negatively in the emails. “This is what everyone feared. Over the years, it has become increasingly difficult for anyone who does not view global warming as an end-of-the-world issue to publish papers. This isn’t questionable practice, this is unethical.”

Fort Hood Shooting ‘Oddities’

From Citizens For Legitimate Government:

‘Three people are involved. That, by definition, means it is a conspiracy.’

  • CNN: Over one hundred shots were fired in the attack. (Logic dictates that ‘over one hundred shots’ were not fired by a single individual, surrounded by military personnel and special police forces.
  • CNN: FBI was investigating Major Nidal Hasan six months ago
  • Curiouser and Curiouser: –Video surfaces of alleged shooter, Major Nidal Hasan, attending Homeland Security Task Force conference –Major Hasan’s name appears on page 29 of The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute’s ‘Thinking Anew—Security Priorities for the Next Administration‘ –Proceedings Report of the HSPI Presidential Transition Task Force – April 2008 – January 2009. The report is dated 19 May 2009.
  • Numerous media accounts: Major Hasan’s neighbors, medical trainers, colleagues, friends, cousin, uncle– even the store owner to where he bought his food — all heap praise on Major Hasan’s temperament. This appears to be psy-ops, six ways to Sunday. –LRP
  • The alleged shooter received his medical degree from the military’s Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001 and is a graduate of Virginia Tech. Early on Thursday, he showed no signs of worry or stress when he stopped at 7-Eleven for his daily breakfast of hash browns, said Jeannie Strickland, the store’s manager. “He came in (Thursday) morning just like normal,” she said, “nothing weird, nothing out of the ordinary.”

Are you ready? Wait for it… it’s good: Fort Hood shooting: Texas army killer linked to September 11 terrorists –Major Nidal Malik Hasan worshipped at a mosque led by a radical imam said to be a “spiritual adviser” to three of the hijackers who attacked America on Sept 11, 2001. 07 Nov 2009 Hasan, the sole suspect in the [‘Manchurian Candidate’-style] massacre of 13 fellow US soldiers in Texas, attended the controversial Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001 at the same time as two of the September 11 terrorists, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt. His mother’s funeral was held there in May that year. The preacher at the time was Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni scholar who was banned from addressing a meeting in London by video link in August because he is accused of supporting attacks on British troops and backing terrorist organisations.

Two charged in Massachusetts terrorism case

From Reuters:

BOSTON, Nov 5 (Reuters) – U.S. federal prosecutors have charged two men with providing material support to terrorists and other crimes, including conspiracy to kill in a foreign country and lying to law enforcement officers.

Upgraded charges were made against Tarek Mehanna, 27, of Sudbury, Massachusetts, who was charged on Oct. 21 with conspiracy to provide support to terrorists, the U.S. Justice Department said in a news release.

Ahmad Abousamra, 28, thought to be a U.S. citizen now living in Syria, was also charged in Wednesday’s 10-count indictment. Abousamra was named, but not charged, in October’s filing.

The suspects’ plans to carry out terror attacks were reportedly thwarted when they were unable to obtain automatic weapons.

Mehanna, trained as a pharmacist, lived with his parents in a leafy town in Boston’s suburbs.

He is in federal custody awaiting a probable cause hearing on Nov. 12. Mehanna was previously indicted in January 2009 for making false statements to the FBI in connection with a terrorism investigation.

On Thursday, the FBI released excerpts of blogs allegedly written by Mehanna on the appeal of martyrdom, and transcripts of phone conversations between Mehanna and Daniel Maldonado, a New Hampshire man now serving a 10-year sentence for getting al Qaeda military training.

In 2006, Mehanna reportedly helped translate into English an hour-long terrorist training video released by al Qaeda, entitled “Expedition of Umar Hadid.”
